Jan Kneppelhout (1946) has been practising as a lawyer in Rotterdam since 1973. He is one of the two co-founders of Kneppelhout & Korthals (in 1979) and the firm’s senior partner.
While Jan has extensive experience in a wide range of areas of law, his main focus is now on cross-border commercial transactions and disputes and international partnerships such as joint ventures.
Jan’s advice is in high demand, not only because of his legal expertise and legal, strategic and tactical understanding of often complex matters but also because of his language skills. As the son of a diplomat, he was raised outside of the Netherlands and received the greater part of his education at British schools in countries including England and New Zealand. He is an English native speaker and communicates in German and French with ease and pleasure.
He has a wealth of governance experience, serving on boards both in and outside the legal profession. Having been the President of the Rotterdam Bar from 2005 to 2007, he is often asked to assist in disputes between professionals and within professional partnerships, both as a lawyer and as an arbitrator.
Jan’s ability to analyse figures and company accounts is a huge asset here – as it is in other areas.
At Kneppelhout & Korthals, Jan also heads the Competition & Antitrust practice and is responsible for the services rendered to not-for-profit organisations and social enterprises.
